Knocking out a tooth can be a scary experience, especially if you aren’t familiar with what you need to do. Thankfully, a knocked-out tooth doesn’t mean you’ll have a missing tooth. Below are the steps you need to take to either save a tooth or replace a missing one. If you ever knock out a tooth and are in need of a cosmetic dentist in South Florida, please contact our office as soon as possible.
It is crucial to find the tooth and handle it by the crown. Avoid touching the roots at all costs. When you find the tooth, do not scrub it with soap or chemicals. If it has any dirt on it, rinse it gently in whole milk or your own saliva.
After washing the tooth in whole milk or saliva, try placing the tooth back in its socket immediately. You can keep It in place with a wet tea bag, gauze, or your own teeth. If it isn’t possible to put the tooth back in the socket, put it in a container and cover with a small amount of saliva or whole milk. It is equally important to always keep the tooth moist. Do not transport it in tissue or cloth.
You must get to a dentist within 30 minutes. Waiting longer will decrease your chances of being able to re-implant your tooth. If you cannot get to a dentist within 30 minutes, do not panic. Even if the tooth cannot be re-implanted, you can always get an implant. If this ever happens to you, contact us immediately.
