After receiving your dental implants, your oral surgeon will give you a list of instructions. Generally, you will be required to stick to a soft diet for several days. You also need to be extra careful when brushing your teeth.
As much as possible, avoid the surgical site. Swelling and discomfort are expected, but you can minimize the swelling by applying cold and warm packs alternately at different intervals. The swelling will usually diminish after a couple days. As for the pain, you may take over-the-counter painkillers.
Seven to 14 days after surgery, you’ll be required to come back for another appointment. Your oral surgeon will remove the sutures and check the site for healing. This will also allow them to check the site for any signs of infection.
Six weeks after your first checkup, you’ll need to return again so your dentist can assess your gum tissues. After that, expect to go back every three months for regular checkups.
